This role is primarily based at our headquarters in the Innovation Depot in downtown Birmingham. Depending on the position, work may involve hands-on time in our hydroponic R&D lab, participation in farmers market events, or collaboration across digital and physical systems.

As a startup, our environment is fast-paced, evolving, and highly collaborative. Team members should be comfortable with shifting priorities, physical activity (standing, lifting, bending, etc.), and working with tools, technology, or plant systems in various stages of development.

About the Role

Objectives of this Role

Ensuring and validating supplier quality and regulatory compliance
Developing and maintaining supplier evaluation processes
Ensuring potential suppliers receive the correct documentation for quotes, product development, etc
Performing mechanical engineering functions such as the creation of Drawings, BOM’s and performing analysis

Responsibilities

Qualifying vendors
Serving as the primary liaison with suppliers
Establishing a supplier quality plan
Working with internal teams to identify and mitigate risks in supply chain quality
Ensuring suppliers receive the correct information to quote or build products
Investigate and resolve supplier-related quality issues; manage root cause analysis and corrective actions
Creating critical documents such as BOM’s, specifications and drawings
Conduct analysis such as stress analysis, FEA, CFD, etc

Requirements

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality Assurance, or related field.

  • 3+ years of experience in supplier quality, design engineering or manufacturing quality roles.

  • Knowledge of inspection techniques, quality systems (ISO 9001 or equivalent), and root cause analysis.

  • Experience with mechanical and/or electro-mechanical components.

  • Experience with developing BOM’s, product specifications, and drawings

  • Conducting stress analysis, CFD and FEA.

  • Familiarity with CAD/CAM/Analytical tools such as SolidWorks/CATIA/AutoCAD/ /Ansys/Abaqus


Preferred Skills and Qualifications

  • Experience working with vendors in controlled environment agriculture, HVAC, or clean tech industries.

  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing, six sigma, or DFMEA.

  • Experience with ERP and quality management systems.

  • Salary Range: $85,000 – $115,000 annually, depending on experience

Shipshape AgWorks is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Supplier Quality Engineer with a strong Mechanical Engineering background to ensure that all parts, materials, and assemblies sourced from third-party vendors meet or exceed company quality standards, and customer expectations. This role is key to maintaining performance and reliability across our modular farming systems, as we scale into manufacturing and multi-site deployment.
The ideal candidate will also be responsible for executing mechanical engineering functions such as creating specifications, BOM’s, generating drawings and performing analysis such as stress analysis, FEA and CFD.
